SmartPad 2.0 is almost here!  Take a look at our new screen shots and get ready for a friendly, integrated organizer – that’s also Smart. So Smart, it monitors your projects for you, automatically places the top task from each project into your active tasks list, finds time for you to do your tasks, and links all of your notes to any follow-up items that you create.  Oh, and it also logs your time for you. Read all about it here.

The new iOS4 that most of you have on your iPhones and iPads finally allows you to run multiple applications at the same time. It’s really cool.  When you press the Home button once to close an app, it actually remains in memory (or at least, a certain part of it does).  If you double-tap the home icon, it will show you which apps are still “in memory”.  Select any of those, and the app will immediately start, with no delay.  This is great for apps like ours, which have to read data into memory and then perform updates and logic fist – because now there is no delay at all! Apple calls this “Switcher” and you can read about it here.

The downside is that if you have many apps still resident in memory, they may cause problems for each other. This is particularly true of apps that require a fair amount of memory or that have “lots going on” such as our Smart Apps – SmartTime, SmartPlans, SmartCal, SmartNotes and SmartPad.  You see, Apple does not actually close down ANY of your apps when you press the Home button. It just puts “a portion” of then into memory (that “portion” is determined by the app developer).  So as you open more and more apps, the amount of memory allocated to apps that you want to run, is decreased – even though the app that you are currently running is automatically allocated top priority for memory and computing resources.

August 9, 2010 – Bainbridge Island, Washington

We are pleased to announce our new back to school line-up of productivity applications. They include SmartTime, SmartNotes (for iPhone and iPad), and SmartPlans.  They also include two new apps, SmartCal for iPhone and SmartTime for iPad.  Both are currently undergoing testing and will be ready in the very near future.

SmartCal is an integrated calendar and planner that combines tasks and events just the way your day unfolds.   It allows you to sort and prioritize your tasks at the tip of your finger, and then inserts them into the free time in your Calendar. It even splits your tasks for you automatically.  Quick add new appointments simply by tapping on the time line from the Day or Week views.  SmartCal also syncs directly with your iPhone Calendar, enabling seamless connections onward to iCal, Mobile Me, and Outlook.

SmartTime for iPad is the ultimate integration of calendars, to-do’s, notes, projects, and people.  It combines the best features of our SmartApps into one productivity powerhouse with a simple, intuitive interface.  Flip through calendar views, take notes and create new tasks from any highlighted text, integrate tasks dynamically into your work day, manage your time, time your projects and calls, and see it all on one uncluttered screen.
