Toodledo vs Google for tasks

I use SmartTime on my iPhone connected to Google for my Events and Tasks.  I also use SmartPad on my iPad connected to Google for my Events.  But SmartPad uses ToodleDo for tasks.  I am considering making a swich to ToodleDo as my task source, but SmartTime doesnt handle ToodleDo so my iPhone would be out of the loop.

Questions:
Is ToodleDo the going forward task backend for LCL products?

I dont want to buy ToodleDo for my iPhone because i would prefer to use LCL products, but will SmartTime have ToodleDo connectivity?

SmartCal looks like another possibility, but i would need Google Calendar connectivity and ToodleDo connectivity.  Is this going to happen?

Thanks in adv.  Love your products.  I just want to get my two gadgets happy and together as soon as i can.

Hi, Thermos.

Toodledo was clearly the favorite among our forum users as an external 'task sync' to complement Google Calendar for events.   However, GCal sync seems to be problematical for many of our users.

We do have a beta version of SmartTime that includes both Toodledo Sync and iPhone Calendar sync.  We will begin testing that in earnest after Smart Pad 1.1 and 1.2 have been released, hopefully before the end of this year.

The next version of SmartCal will also feature Toodledso sync. We hope to have that available, or at least submitted to the App Store, around the end of this month.  It is in beta (I use it daily, right now).

Personally, I like the free online Toodledo app because I can create new tasks quickly and eficiently, directly from my Firefox browser. I just tap Option+Command+A and a little window drops down (it's an add-in for Firefox).  Then I sync to Smart Pad (and to SmartCal, which I am beta testing).

As for Google, actually the iPhone and iPad calendars handle sync to Google MUCH BETTER than we ever could, because they utilize Google's Microsoft Exchange.  So they sync directly, and in the background.  That means the iPhone Calendar and iPad Calendar are always in perfect sync with Google Calendar, as long as you have an internet connection. So all we have to do, then, is sync our apps directly with the iPhone or iPad calendar. This is a much easier task for us - from a technical standpoint - because it is entirely internal to the iPhone or iPad, and it employs API's that were created for us by Apple.

So, because I prefer the Google calendar to iCal on my computer, I just use the following:

SmartCal -> Apple's Direct Sync -> iPhone Calendar -> MS Exchange -> Google Calendar (or Outlook, if you prefer)
Smart Pad -> Apple's Direct Sync -> iPad Calendar -> MS Exchange -> Google Calendar (or Outlook, if you prefer)

Using the above, i also achieve Smart Cal <-> Smart Pad sync.

Hope this helps.

Thank you, that helps.  ill continue to handle my tasks in smarttime via google until toodledo is in either smarttime or smartcal.  after that ill probably make the push to toodledo.  i like the direction you'll are going in!

Any chance of finding out how long Rome did to take to build.
Probably a lot quicker than your sync/back up for SmartNotes?

A really good app let down by sync backup failure ..it must be costing your company a lot of lost revenue.
