When you creat an item there are three types. Tasks, Tasks with Deadlines, and Events.

By default, all new items are simple Tasks. They are easy to move around because they do not have fixed deadlines.

If you select a deadline for a Task, then it will take priority over other tasks, particulalry as time approaches the deadline.

Tips:

  • The number of days until a Deadline Task is due, is shown in the Badge.

  • If a Deadline task is due today, it will look like this:

  • If a Deadline task is overdue, the Badge will look like this:

When you select an item as an Event, a couple of things change.

An Event, or meeting, has a fixed start and finish time. You select this by first choosing the duration, then chosing the start date and time.

View your day three ways. Shift back and forth between views.

In Smart View, the Dynamic Day Line is your magic wand. Everything above it, can be completed today. Everything below it, will have to wait until tomorrow.

Calendar View shows the same items as Smart View, but in a more traditional Calendar. But this is far more useful than any 'normal' calendar:

Tasks, Deadlines, and Events are all included in the Calendar View.
Move items with the tip of a finger
Flip from day to day, with the flip of a finger.
Move items from one day to the next, by dragging them.
Convert a Task into an Event just by moving it to a specific time.

Focus View is our most simple, yet most powerful, view. It allows you to focus on the 5 tasks that need to be done, and the 5 tasks that have just been done. It provides both focus and context during the day.

Tips:

  • Edit the SmartTime settings to determine your working hours for Home and Office, both during the Week and on Weekends. This helps SmartTime decide how to prioritize your items, and when to fit them into your day.
  • You can overlap Home and Office times.
  • If your Deadlines are 'rigid,' then be sure to leave "Auto Bump Deadlines" to off. If you set this to On, then SmartTime will change your deadlines for you as you add and edit other tasks and events.
