Everyone has different ways of planning out their day.  Here are three tips for three different types of people.

The Careful Planner: Reach for the Stars

SmartCal and SmartPad both have a one-tap”Star” feature which allows you to quickly mark your tasks with a star.  Then, you can use the one-tap filter to show only Starred items.  Each evening as my day winds to a close, I go through my list of to-do’s and just tap the ones that I want to do tomorrow.  Then I select the “Star” one-tap filter, and presto. That’s all I see.  When I wake up the next day and look at my calendar, SmartCal and SmartPad have already placed those tasks into my Calendar, in the order that I want to do them, so I can see exactly where they fit.  It even splits them to fit around meetings and appointments.

The Project Multi-tasker:  GTDo’s

If you have a lot of Projects and you want to focus on the current task from each of your Projects, SmartCal and SmartPad do that for you automatically. Just tap on the “GTDo” tab of the  one-tap filters and you will see the currently active task from each one of your Projects – and nothing else! Suddenly, the hundreds of things you need to get done are all distilled down to just one from each Project. And when you mark a GTDo as “done”, the next one from that project automatically appears. You don’t see any more than you have to, and you can focus instead on the task at hand – not on the daunting list of things you need to do.  Of course, SmartCal and SmartPad both place your GTDo’s directly into today’s calendar as well.

The Control Freak: Tasks into Events

SmartTime, our top-selling organizer for iPhone, shares a very unique feature with SmartCal and SmartPad. In fact, it’s so unique that we don’t think anyone else does it.  Of course, that’s because all three combine Tasks and Events into one integrated view.  So here’s the feature:  In Calendar view (in all three apps), just pick a Task and drag it to the specific time slot that you want to do it.  Our SmartTime logic automatically converts the Task into an Event! This is useful for planning – and fixing – specific times to do your tasks.  You can also use pop-up reminders for each task. And, when you finish, you have a couple of options. You can convert the “event” back into a Task with one tap, or you can let it stay as an “event” and you will have a visual history of every thing you did, every day, right in your calendar. This is handy for auditing or just remembering what you did, when.
