Your iPad is great but sometimes it’s useful to have your calendars and task lists on your desktop for when you are at home or at the office; it can be a lot easier to enter information on a regular keyboard, send and receive meeting invitations, connect with your company or school calendars, etc.  As far as we know, SmartPad is the only app that truly integrates Tasks and Events into your calendar. There are some other apps that make use of both tasks and events, but none actually integrate them together so you can see how much time you have for your tasks in-between your appointments and other schedules.

In SmartPad, Tasks and Events both share the same Categories.  If it’s an Event, it is referred to as a Calendar; if it’s a Task, the category is referred to as a Project, but they are both the same. Because nobody else integrates in this way, SmartPad syncs Events and Tasks separately: Events to the iPad Calendar, and Tasks to Toodledo; the two come together in SmartPad.

* In the near future, we will have a Mac version and a web version that will sync data seamlessly.

For the time being, our recommended solution is to use Google Calendar (or BusyCal) on your desktop for calendar events, and Toodledoo (free) on your desktop for task folders.

You can sync Google Calendar directly to your iPad calendar using Google’s Exchange. It works very well and is fast. All you have to do is make sure that your Google Calendars have the same name as your Toodledo folders.

Here’s the best way to do it. Be sure to follow this order:

  1. First, create your calendar categories in Google.
  2. Then, sync those to your iPad Calendar.
  3. Then, sync those to SmartPad on your iPad.
  4. Then, sync SmartPad to Toodledo.

That will automatically take the calendar names that you created in Google, and create corresponding Toodledo folders with the same names.

That’s it.

From then on, it’s all automatic and in the background. You can create and edit events in both Google and SmartPad, and you can create and edit tasks in both Toodledo and SmartPad.
